My Experience at the Big E Minimize
Comments from Bob Steiner, Vice Chair NH Board of Trustees, ESE
I noticed that it was more attractive and the one thing I liked is that brochures were assorted by regions so that visitors did not have to search all over the rack to and what they wanted.  read more ...

Lakes Region Highlighted at the Big E
Three members of the Association staff, Amy Landers, Kim Sperry & Kelly Bryer, represented all of our members at the Big E in the New Hampshire Building's Information Booth. Over an estimated 982,000 people visited the New Hampshire building during the 17 day event. Watch your member news next summer for information on volunteering and highlighting your individual property at next year's event! It's FREE and a great opportunity for additional exposure.

Charlene Courtemanche, Operations Manager-Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce
This past September, I had the privilege of attending the “The Big E” in Springfield, MA.
It is certainly big and truly a phenomenal experience! read more ...

George Bald, Commissioner-Dept of Resources & Economic Development
While driving to the Big E on Tuesday morning, I was wondering if this would be in the category of drudgery. How much fun can it be to stand at a booth and pass out maps? I was in for a surprise!  read more ...

2008 Big E
Volunteer Calendar Open
The calendar (to the left) is a QUICK "live" look at 2008 volunteer calendar and the number of volunteer openings for each shift for each day of the event. It also posts a "C" if there is a celebrity shift still available. This will help you make a quick decision to sign up or not.

NOTE: We work/volunteer in 3 hour shifts... If you volunteer for multiple shifts you DO get breaks, you DO get time off to eat lunch/dinner, etc. You do NOT have to schedule those times in. If you choose to volunteer for a shift then take a shift off and come back for another shift.. that is fine too! :-)

Oct 11 - Debriefing Meeting Minimize

If you have ideas for next year that you would like to discuss at the Debrifing on October 11th from 10am - Noon at DTTD office in Concord... Please feel free to email them to Judi at jwindow@nhgsa.com and I'll be happy to post them here. This will help all know what is being thought of and what else needs to be discussed. Thanks!! Judi

    1. If we know that we don't have materials for certain situations (i.e. Hiking) then be sure that the volunteers know how to answer those type of questions.
    2. Move printer to a higher shelf
    3. Find a location (other than backroom) for brochure wagon (chained outside?)
    4. AMC information
    5. Disclaimer stating that email will not be shared
    6. Single looped collaborative NH video (about the whole state)
    7. We did have fun this year, as always, and found the new set up preferable.
    8. Alan and Mickey did great work supervising us and everyone got along well.
    9. There seemed to be the right amount of people and we all kept busy doing our tasks
    10. You are the GRANITE  of the Granite State. Good Job.
    11. It might be a good idea to talk with Dept of Ag to see if there is a way to elimiate the popcorn smoke from the building (or at least limit the amount coming into the building)
    12. There were many people smoking right outside the building doors. Is there a way to move the smoking area away from the NH Building doors?
    13. The new set-up worked exceptionally well while we were there. The crowds were better dispursed in finding material of interest to them, no big back-ups waiting to get to the counter.
    14. It does appear that most of the time there were too many people in the booth. Four people could handle the crowd, at least when we were there.
    15. I liked the way the brochures were arranged. It was good for me to be in the Lakes Region area to help people as that is my area of expertise.
    16. Work with New England Inns & Resorts Association to distribute NE Maps, etc.
    17. The Old Man of the Mountain Legacy Fund would like to be included in the 2008 Big E. Allison McLean alerted us to the opportunity at this year's OMMLF conferenct too late for us to send materials or a display, but NEXT YEAR we can do it right. We will have a film of the proposed memorial that we can show. Please add my name to the list of all communicatio afor 2008 as soon as possible. Thank you and congratulats on the success of your event this year. Maggie Stier, Exec Asst. OMMLF.
    18. The new booth design was great! The "crazy coner" really worked well. Guests were able to view many more brochures in a format which allowed greater interaction with a volunteer.
    19. At least 10 guests commented that the NH Building's tourism desk was the best at the fair. Some mentioned that we had more volunteers and more enthusiatic volunteers. Others mentioned the large selection of brochures as compared to the other state buildings. Still others liked the booth design and said that it was easy to fine what they wanted.
    20. There seemed to be many more guests filling out the request cards for the NH Tourism book as compared to years past.
    21. I think the we're missing the boat in terms of collecting information on Big E guests that stop by our booth.
    22. I'd like to see some sort of kiosk or workstation with an animated character to guide people throught ht esteps of entering their information, maybe a Disney idea like "Send and email postcard to yourself" from the Big E! This would encourage more people to add their emails so we can remarket to them.
    23. I liked the booth Manager/Supervisor idea and I think that it helped peole not get wiped out over the duration of the fair.
    24. Enter State via Zip Code (CERS)
    25. Cup holder for backroom
    26. Old Man viewer
    27. List of NH Firsts

    45. Brochure/Area of the Day/Disply (by pole?)
    46. 3 free standing racks (campers, other high volume)
    47. Floor support (barn mats)
    48. Locker case for backroom (computers, etc.) (like Paul's)
    49. Brochure "donut" sliding racks(for mixed brochures)??
    50. Don't use accronyms in brochure listings, as not everyone knows what they are
    51. "Desk Copy" of visitor guide seemed to work well
    52. Two laptops needed to be dedicated for Big E use
    53.  The booth should have joined the rest of the building to promote the holiday theme
    54.  Develop table top brochure holders
